How to make your wedding your own

Unique weddings that reflect you both with authenticity and creativity create a memory for you and for your guests that last a life time. Don’t feel the pressure to conform to tradition. A wedding doesn’t have to follow a particular timeline or way, mix it up, do it differently, do it how you want it to be.
So? How do you make your wedding your own? Pop a hold on scrolling insta and scrolling pinterest (by no means stop though, insta and pinterest are life) – whilst these platforms absolutely help you find schemes, themes and all things inspo, if you want your wedding to be unique and a reflection of you, you wont find those ideas by replicating another.
Our top tips to make your wedding your own. Lets start from the top…
Your ceremony
Work with your celebrant to tell your story. Tell your celebrant the funny nuances you have of each other, like your partner leaving their wet toothbrush on the bench instead of putting it back in the holder, or the never ending Netflix arguments. This is your opportunity to tell your nearest and dearest about your love and your life together and why you’re there celebrating in marriage.
Also the opportunity to write your own personal vows is another way to inject emotion and an opportunity for it to be completely about you and your love.
Signage
Be playful! This is where you can use the play on words with your hashtag, inject some personality and an opportunity to showcase the theme from your invitations. Get a graphics person to create a logo or a brand for your day and have this branding across all of your paper stationery. On this – personalised menu’s for your guests and writing individual messages of thanks. Trust me – your guests will LOVE this. A take home piece for your guests and also acknowledging each person for the role they’ve played in your day.
Also, I know it sounds cliché but if you’re having a cocktail or there’s an option for an alternative drink, call it a cocktail and give it a name similar to the playful wording in your signage.
Tables
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 sound a bit boring? Why not choose 6 of your favourite countries you have travelled to together, or 6 milestones in your relationship? Customise your table numbers to create conversation but also a pattern for your own speech to follow.
An “activity”
I tried really hard to come up with another word for “activity” but I couldn’t. Photo walls, guests books and photo booths etc are common in the wedding world now, so why not try and come up with a completely personal task based activity for your guests to take part in as part of the evening. Stay tuned for an idea for this on our insta soon…. We are about to share what “activity” we did as part of our own wedding.
First dance
Absolutely in no shape or form willing to waltz in front of heaps of people to a slow song? Me either. My new last name is Jackson, so we did our first dance (with choreography help from a close family friend) to Jackson – cover by Florence and the Machine and we rocked out with the funniest first dance we could muster. The entire wedding party was on the dfloor before our choreography was even over.
Dessert bar over dessert
Want your guests up and dancing and don’t want to waste your wedding cake? Why not opt for a dessert bar nearby your dancefloor so guests can boogie whilst also helping themselves to hand held desserts and cake, it keeps the party happening and no wastage.
Our biggest words of advice when planning a wedding unique to your own is to not feel pressure to include traditional elements or follow traditional timelines. Put a bit of flavor and flare into wording and signage / stationery and finally if you want your wedding to be YOU don’t follow the latest trends…just do what you love!
